Although some physicians practice acupuncture, not all acupuncturists are physicians. Your acupuncturist should licensed and also certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). An acupuncturist is required to obtain many hours of training before they can be licensed.
Before receiving Acupuncture OC, your acupuncturist will review your medical history, along with the symptoms that you are experiencing. If pregnant or even suspect pregnancy, your acupuncturist should be made aware of this as to avoid speciific points they may otherwise use during treatment. A reputable acupuncturist will also use disposable acupuncture needles. Although the fear of pain is a concern, most patients will not experience what we think of as pain, but they may experience tingling sensations, and possibly become light headed or dizzy.
