Security firm to patrol military bases

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A West Michigan firm will provide armed security for six National Guard and Air National Guard bases in the state.

The Grand Rapids Press reports Saturday that Michigan is paying DK Security $15 million over five years to patrol Camp Grayling, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, Fort Custer Training Center, Joint Forces Headquarters and Grand Ledge Army National Guard Base.

More than 100 people have been hired by the company.

DK Security Executive Vice President Kathryn Kendall says the company tends to hire retired members of the military and law enforcement for its security work.

Private security is expected to allow military personnel on the bases to perform their own work. Only 20 percent of the state's National Guard personnel are full-time.
